Abstract
This study aims to understand the influence of multidimensional deprivation meaning the experience of deficiency in various living areas, on the longitudinal change type of problem drinking, targeting the mid-old age.
This study conducted the latent class growth analysis and multiple logistic regression analysis, targeting total 3,975 mid-old age people in their 40-64, by using the 7th-year Korea Welfare Panel from 2013 to 2018. In the results, first, there were total three latent groups of problem drinking developmental trajectory in mid-old age. According to the characteristics of change type, they were classified into ¡®low-level drinking maintenance group¡¯, ¡®moderate-level drinking decrease group¡¯ in the social drinking level, and ¡®High-risk drinking maintenance group¡¯ with high level of problem drinking. Second, in the results of verifying the influence of multidimensional deprivation on the change type of problem drinking d in the classified mid-old age, when there were more experiences in ¡®deprivation of social security¡¯ and ¡®social deprivation¡¯, regardless of the reference group criteria, it was highly possible to belong to the ¡®High-risk drinking maintenance group¡¯. On the other hand, the ¡®housing deprivation¡¯ showed the high possibility to belong to the ¡®High-risk drinking maintenance group¡¯ only when the reference group was the ¡®moderate-level drinking decrease group¡¯.
Based on the results of this study suggest the differentiated approach of intervention according to the change type of problem drinking in mid-old age, and that the vulnerable group by each area of multidimensional deprivation should be considered in case when establishing the intervention strategies for the decrease of problem drinking.
